Greetings! You’ve made it this far and actually starting reading this blog. Congratulations! I didn’t think anyone would read past the title. I only had enough material planned for this far into the blog.
Well since you’re still reading, I guess I’ll keep going.
Welcome to The Cooley Cottage! This is a blog my wife and I will be writing that’s about all the things we value in life. You might find topics such as Married Life (especially for a young couple such as ourselves), Faith (pros and cons), Love (
mostly from her blog from both of us!), Family (mostly great things, of course), and most likely some geeky stuff from me (Star Wars, comics, movies, etc.). I’ll be sure to reference a ton of films and television, so please try to keep up. *If you want to read my wife’s blog, then go ahead and click this link!
I never thought of myself as a blogger, which I am sure a lot of people say. It’s hard to not be a cliché. My wife might be posting more than I. This is sort of her bread and butter. I will try to at least post once a week but will probably post whenever I feel the itch. Some might be long, and some short. I’ll always try to be interesting, or at least entertaining. But my grammar will typically fall on the side of “bless his heart, he is trying.” (I’m sure my grammar guru friends are already cringing –– I know I’m sorry!!).
Now perhaps a little about me, David Copperfield style. If you don’t already know my name, I am Casey Cooley. I was born in Martin, KY in the year of 1991. The rest of the birth date is May 21. My family lived in Prestonsburg, KY at the time. According to a map you’re about an inch from the edge of east Kentucky. I think the best way to describe my childhood in Eastern KY is to say it was somewhat like the film Steel Magnolias. My older brother Cory, father, and mother all lived in a manageable house in a small neighborhood that was oddly enough adjacent to a street called Cooley Street. My last name is a pretty big deal in Prestonsburg, to say the least.
We moved to Versailles in the summer of 1995. I remember the move clearly. I even remember looking at the house before we moved in! I have a good amount of vivid memories of my time in Prestonsburg. I think my first memory goes back to 3 or 4 years old, but I’m pretty sure I have a memory of when I was 2.
Our house in Versailles was great! The little white house on High Street. I still remember the address and the phone number. I won’t get too much into my time there. Perhaps I will make posts about those memories later on. I will say this was the house in which a lot of defining events occurred, which I guess is true for all my homes. The High Street house was the era in which my parents divorced. This happened sometime in the year 2000. Too serious too soon? I might talk more on that later. Changing subjects –– this is also the house in which I saw Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. No, this is not the first Star Wars movie I saw, and yes I still like The Phantom Menace…… I can hear the readers cursing my blog right now. Sorry not sorry! Definitely more on that topic later!
My mother, brother, and I moved into my Step-Father’s house later on, and then we moved into two other houses before I graduated High School. Then they moved again into what is still their house today.
I know this is getting long, so I’ll try to wrap it up soon. I spent my first two years of college at Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC). I transferred to Asbury University for my last two years. At Asbury I met one of my best friends, expanded my skills and knowledge in my great passion of filmmaking, but more importantly I met my wife Sara! I will definitely make a post about our time together. We married May 10, 2014. We lived in Louisville for about a month, then Shelbyville for about 10 months, and moved to Versailles where we are today. So now I’m back home with the love of my life, working in my dream job. Life is perfect!
Okay it isn’t. But it’s pretty darn close! I don’t want you to read this blog thinking my wife and I have it made. Yes we are beyond blessed to have what we have and to be where we are. We say we are definitely better off than our parents were at our age, at least based on the stories we were told. I’m sure that was our parents’ goal, and they succeeded.
This blog will indeed be about how awesome it is being married to Sara, but it will also be about how freaking hard life is. I know I don’t have the hardest life. I’ve got sad stories just like everyone else. My sad stories might even surprise a few of you. However, some stories I will not tell on here. At least not yet.
This blog will be a tale chronicling the life of a man who falls every day. This isn’t some cute way of saying I’m a sinner like everyone else –– I’m talking about mistakes I make in judgement, about relationships, about life choices, and about what it takes to try and be the man of God I am meant to be. That’s my whole goal in life. I aspire to be the very best, like no one ever was. I mean the very best God intended me to be. What that means, I’m still learning. I want to be the leader of my house like I’m meant to be. A supporter. A servant. A leader.
I will also talk a TON of Star Wars and movies. So there’s that. I love movies and I have seen quite a few….thousand.
That’s about all I care to write about for my first blog. Thanks for sticking with me. I’m pretty sure my future posts will not always be this long. I don’t know, maybe they will be. Who’s to say? My journaling will sometimes be stream-of-consciousness. Not so much Jack Kerouac. Just call it loosey-goosey.
Okay, seriously. That is all for my first blog. I will stop writing right……..now.
Also, please subscribe if you want! Okay, that’s all. For real.
